Martial arts offer a number of physical and mental health benefits:

Conditioning. if you want to tone and strengthen your muscles, there is no better way than an activity like Judo.
Flexibility and agility. to improve and work well  you need to increase flexibility and agility, so improving your coordination skills. We work on these constantly.
Posture. From the beginning you will feel the difference in your body, knowing when to send tall and when to bend.
Weight. Martial arts help you lose weight and maintain a healthy body weight, because it is active cardiac exercise.
Stamina. With the stretches and extensive exercises we provide fro adults its a full-body workout,  to increase overall stamina and endurance.
Mental health. Physical fitness, is one thing  but martial arts can improve mental and emotional health. As you learn self-defence moves, you gain an inner and an outer self-confidence, reduce stress, and it assists in concentration and focus.
Getting Started in the Martial Arts

At Bushido Kwai Dojo – Lewes we meet on a Tuesday evening and hope to be opening a new evening shortly, Come down and meet  meet with the lead instructor Ray Twitchen and ask to watch a session before you sign up.

For Judo and Ju-jItsu, you will need a white cotton uniform and belt. ( to start you can wear tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt) Martial arts are practiced barefoot, and you will also need a pair of sandals or flip flops as we always go barefoot on the mats but put sandals on when we are not on the mat.

Martial arts involve many techniques that will take time to learn, so the first classes will focus on basic moves and plenty of stretching. You’ll also find that classes are often varied and broken into different segments, helping to keep you on your toes and prevent boredom.
