Throws involve manipulating the balance of an attacker to cause them to fall forcibly to the ground, so the Ju-Jitsu practitioner can restrain them or escape.

There are  different classes of throws, including

‘gari’ (reaps),

‘guruma’ (wheels),

‘gake’ (props),

‘goshi’ (hip throws) and

‘otoshi’ (drops):
